This
moderately challenging
tour takes us to a
beautiful wooded area southwest
of Florence, a paradise for mountain bikers with its abundance of single
and dual tracks criss-crossing the hills.
we'll warm up by riding through the Florence valley and then begin a long
ascent through the woods, stopping to admire the
oratorio
of San Zanobi (the first Bishop of Florence who came to this spot
to pray during the Middle Ages) and enjoying the the
quiet
beauty of the surroundings. What follows will be a series of
short
descents and climbs, some technical, as we make our way to the tiny
"paese" of San Vincenzo a Torre, where we'll lunch at a popular trattoria,
specializing in
home-made pasta.
After lunch, we'll pass
lovely stone farm houses and
villas, olive groves and quiet villages as we make our way
to the
Romanesque church of San Martino alla Palma.
This lovely church has a spectacular view of the valley and mountains behind,
which we'll enjoy just before our final descent into Florence.
