We organize mountain bike tours and road bike tours in Tuscany and Florence
We are Vertigo Mtb, an association of bicycle tour guides with years of experience offering mountain bike and road bike tours in Tuscany. We are convinced that there is no better way than by bicycle to discover the beauty and richness of this part of Italy and are seeking to share our passion for cycling, art, food and wine as it can only be found in Tuscany.
We organize full-day, 3-day and week-long tours in areas of Tuscany such as the Chianti, the hills of Florence, the hills of Siena and the Montalbano.
Specializing in custom tours tailored to fit each guest's specific interests and needs, we offer more leisurely tours, moderate tours for those seeking to improve their level of fitness and technique--we even offer technical advice--and technically challenging mountain bike tours for the more experienced mountain biker.
Let us describe a typical day on tour with Vertigo Mtb:
We meet in the morning in Florence or at the trailhead, help fit you to
your Vertigo Mtb road or mountain bike, complete with helmet and water
bottle, and offer some tips on technique and safety. We will then set
off on our ride, finding a pace that suits everyone. Winding our way through
the landscape, travelling on the most scenic and quietest routes possible,
we will enjoy the breathtaking views from the hilltops. Our route will
take us through seas of vineyards, quiet woods, olive groves and along
cypress tree-lined paths. We'll also take time to stop and smell the roses,
visiting small medieval towns, such as Vinci with its castle and museum
dedicated to its favorite son, Leonardo, and Monteriggioni, a perfectly
preserved fortified town in the heart of the Chianti. A bicycle tour in
Tuscany would not be complete without enjoying its culinary delights,
such as lunch at a local trattoria, a picnic on a hillside or a stop for
homemade gelato. After working up an appetite by cycling, you will especially
appreciate the simplicity and freshness of Tuscan cuisine. The ride after
lunch is usually more leisurely, and we will enjoy the slower pace as
we ride in the afternoon light. On some tours, there is the option to
stop and visit a winery, where we can visit the cellars, learn about the
wine-making process and of course, taste the wines. On one-day tours,
at the end of the day, we will transport you back to Florence. On tours
of more than one day, after the ride we will head to our home for the
night, a country villa or agriturismo. We choose our accomodations for
their beautiful settings and quality of dining. In the evening, you will
have a chance to enjoy the grounds and a delicious home-cooked meal after
a long day of cycling.
Some of the highlights of our one-day and multiple-day tours:
Riding on the famous “strade bianche” around Siena, wide trails
and dirt roads that crisscross the haunting landscape of the Crete Senesi.
The panoramic views of the undulating Tuscan hills, with the characteristic
patchwork of fields, vineyards and olive groves, dotted with cypresses,
stone farm houses and church bell towers.
A wine-tasting at a family-run winery overlooking the vineyards below
Castellina in Chianti.
A visit to Montefioralle, a perfectly preserved medieval village perched
high above the Greve river in Chianti.
Cycling up to the Castello di Verrazzano, a medieval castle and one of
the oldest wineries in the Chianti.
Our former guests have often described their Vertigo Mtb tour as the highlight of their stay in Tuscany.
